Florence Nightingale Community Hospital Map

Situated on London Road in Derby, the Florence Nightingale Community Hospital fills a gap left by the closure of the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary in 2009. The hospital sits further south-east along London Road from the old infirmary site, bringing community-level healthcare to central Derby under the management of the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

Background and History

The hospital opened in 2009, established specifically to continue local community services in central Derby after the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary closed. Improvement works followed in 2011 to consolidate services on the site. For over a decade it operated as the London Road Community Hospital, before being renamed the Florence Nightingale Community Hospital in July 2021. The Royal Derby Hospital is the other main hospital serving the city.

Services Provided

The hospital provides rehabilitation and intermediate care, inpatient facilities, and some outpatient services. Its focus on community healthcare means it handles patients who require ongoing or transitional care rather than acute emergency treatment, making it a different type of facility from the Royal Derby Hospital.
